Lowes Island Golf Course

Last February, Donald Trump purchased the Lowes Island Club in Potomac Falls, Loudoun County.  Most notably known for two championship golf courses, the River Course designed by Arthur Hills and the Island Course designed by Tom Fazio, Trump has plans to renovate the country club in the next two years.  He has plans to upgrade the clubhouse with a more luxurious feel, expand the tennis and swimming programs, promote social membership beyond the two golf courses, implement a new caddy system, and most importantly, renovate the golf courses to bring them "to the highest standard of golf."  Trump was quoted, "When completed, there will be nothing like it."

Trump has built some of the most highly rated golf courses in all the world.  With clubs in California, New York, New Jersey, Florida, The Grenadines, Scotland and Puerto Rico, Trump knows how to create a luxurious country club experience.  Lowes Island Club will soon be renamed Trump National Golf Club and added to the list.

Dulles Metrorail Project Starts Digging

Last November we wrote a blog about the upcoming Dulles Metrorail Project stretching the existing metrorail from the East Falls Church Metro station to Wiehle Avenue in Reston, and eventually to Ashburn.  Construction was to begin in March of 2009, and sure enough, it has.  Many are already feeling the effects commuting along Route 7 with the closing of service roads and relocation of utility lines.  Unfortunately, these are necessary evils before the future positive effects of the Dulles Metrorail Project will be realized.

Friday, 10 April 2009

Masters ContestThe Masters Golf Tournament weekend is one of the Cook and Zook Team's favorite times of year.  This weekend represents good weather, golf, and a weekend full of suspense.  Every year we put together a "Masters Tournament Pick the Winner" contest for our clients and friends.  This year the first place prize winner will receive $100 gift card and a free round of golf with the Cook and Zook Team (any excuse to play golf is a good excuse!).  Anyone who is part of our Client Appreciation Program can participate by simply sending an email with their golfer of choice.  Easy huh?!  Our Client Appreciation Program is designed to keep our clients and friends up to date with the real estate market with monthly updates.  Every now and then, we'll throw in a contest to make it fun!  We know how important our clients are to growing our business and we want to show them that we Masters Contestappreciate their support.

Our clients know they can call us at anytime with real estate related questions.  If you would like to join our Client Appreciation Program and receive free real estate news and enter drawings for fun prizes, send us an email to info@cookandzook.com with the subject "add to client appreciation program."  We look forward to hearing from you!

Hiking the Great Falls

In our first full week of Spring, I decided to write about something I've enjoyed as the weather has started to warm up... Great Falls National Park.  Located in McLean, Virginia, is 800 acres of landscape for the nature enthusiast, the hiker, the biker, the kayaker, the horseback rider, the extreme sport rock climber, the photographer, and the Sunday stroller.  Open from sunrise to sunset, there are over 15 miles of marked trails with a variety of difficulty levels.  Personally, I enjoy hiking along the Potomac River while capturing pictures of the waterfalls and wildlife... I've included some of my shots.

If you're a history buff, you'll see wooden posts with interesting historical facts throughout the park.  For example, did you know George Washington was a delegate that helped formulate a plan to install a canal system through the great falls?  When the Patowamack Canal was constructed in the early 1800's, it was considered one of the most significant engineering feats of its time.

If you live near Potomac, Maryland, visit the Great Falls Tavern Visitor Center of the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park.  Hiking along the eastern side of Potomac River, the Maryland trails offer more strenuous hiking through a variety of terrains.  The most well-known, albeit difficult trail, is Section "A" of the Billy Goat Trail.  Check out the maps and trail descriptions before you plan your trip to Great Falls Tavern (MD).

The next time you're looking for something to do this Spring, considering making a trip to Great Falls!  You don't have to be a hiker, a biker, or a kayaker to enjoy nature's beauty!
